Less than an hour from Major League Baseballs non-waiver trade deadline the Tampa Bay deal outfielder Brandon Guyer, for two prospect player, from the Cleveland Indians.

The Indians will send the Rays outfielder Nathan Lukes and Minor League pitcher Jhonleider Salinas, in return for Guyer.

Lukes has spent this season with both Class A Lynchfield and Lake Country, he is batting .299 with 38 runs batted in and five home runs over 99 games in the minors. He had a solid glove in the outfield and has above average plate discipline, racking up 39 balls on base over those same 99 games this season. He is an undersized player but is hard to strikeout according to most scouts. He set the Sacramento State’s all-time hits record, which seems to fit in with the hitting and defense the Rays like to play.

Tampa is getting something that they are hoping is a diamond in the rough in Salinas. The 20-year-old Venezuelan prospect is has been up and down in the minors this season with a 5-4 record in the 13 starts with a 2.67 earned run average, for the Indians in the Arizona League. He was signed in 2015 as an undrafted free agent, and they are looking to get him on the path the had Alex Colome.

For what the Rays are giving up they should being getting more in return over the next few years, at least that’s the hope.
