The Cleveland Cavaliers knew there would be major adjustments to their playing style coming into the 2017-2018. When you lose a superstar point guard like Kyrie Irving who averaged 25 points for you the previous year there will naturally be a void that needs to be filled. This void was apparent for the first 12 games of the 2017-2018 campaign. The Cleveland Cavaliers started off the season with a 5-7 record overall. They lost to teams they normally beat like Indiana, New York, and Atlanta. There seemed to be trouble within the organization. But fast forward to today and the Cavaliers are now riding a 12 game winning streak, which is an amazing accomplishment.  And with the upcoming schedule, it is entirely possible to keep that winning streak going for a while longer.

Newcomers like Jeff Green, Dwyane Wade, and Jae Crowder seemed to be lost in the sauce the first 12 games of the season. As I said before, the Cavs started off 5-7 and these three guys seemed to not fit in with the team at all. Nobody knew when to take the shot or when to pass. And there was a lot of standing around and watching going on. However, during this 12 game winning streak, all three guys have picked up their play tremendously. Especially Dwyane Wade for certain. Wade is coming off a 24 point outing last night against the team he played for last year, the Chicago Bulls. Wade seems to be flourishing in his sixth man role with the Cavaliers. He knew it would be a major adjustment for him since he has started at Shooting Guard his entire NBA career. But when you are a seasoned NBA veteran and a future Hall of Famer, you figure things out on the fly. And that is what he has done. Isaiah Thomas will be back in a couple of weeks as well and will naturally add more offensive punch to a Cavs team that is currently rolling.

Kevin Love and J.R. Smith are currently playing lights out as well on this 12 game winning streak. Kevin Love is currently averaging 19.2 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per contest. He is everything the Cavs have needed him to be and then some on this 12 game winning streak. He has had some big scoring nights as well. Which takes the scoring burden off of LeBron James and makes the offense flow effortlessly. J.R. Smith is averaging 8.3 points per game but has turned it on offensively during this streak. It is now a given that J.R. will drop 15-20 points per night and come up with some big three-point baskets to help the team. J.R. can be a cold-blooded assassin if need be. However, the Cavs do not need him to do this all the time. He is a weapon on offense that the Cavs and bring out every so often to demoralize an opponent. He has been a major key to this 12 game winning streak.

Last but not least let’s look at what LeBron James has done this season and during this 12 game winning streak. LeBron seems poised to win his fifth career NBA Most Valuable Player Award. And his first MVP since the 2012-2013 season when he played for the Miami Heat. LeBron is averaging 28.0 points per game, 7.9 rebounds and 8.5 assists. These numbers are currently slightly better than his 2012-2013 NBA MVP award-winning season with Miami. LeBron has been relentless during this 12 game winning streak and seems completely locked in. Saturday against the Memphis Grizzlies, James hit a clutch shot after clutch shot and seemed to be back in “THE KING” mode. If he can continue to play this way the Cavaliers will be UNSTOPPABLE.
