The Miami Pro Summer League down in Miami, Florida had a lot of buzz coming into the summer of 2017. This summer’s league definitely did not disappoint. This is a league I have personally monitored via social media over the past three summers. When this summer hit I made a vow that I would make it to Miami to check out some of the action. Just so happened that my schedule permitted me to stay in Miami for a week this trip. I was able to check out the Miami Pro League Semifinals on Tuesday, August 8th, 2017. The championship game took place on Thursday, August 10th, 2017. The crowds were impressive both days I attended. The games took place at Miami Senior High School in Miami, Florida. The high school’s gym has a lower level and a balcony that is standing room only. The crowds get some massive that on Instagram on the Miami Pro page which is @miamiproleague the guys who run the league which is Kyle and Deebo strongly suggest that fans get to the gym early. And fans do so because they know they will get to see some good basketball and possibly some of their favorite NBA players in action.

James Harden and John Wall showed up the week prior to my arrival and played in a game. Other players that I spotted and met when at the league were Hassan Whiteside, James Johnson and Kelly Olynyk of the Miami Heat. Coach Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat even showed up for the championship game. Marcus Smart of the Boston Celtics showed up and played for the semi finals. I also saw Jeremy Pargo and former NBA star, Glen Rice. Glen Rice played in the championship game and looked impressive in post-NBA retirement.

All in all, I was very impressed with the level of competition other leagues. I was also impressed with Miami Pro’s approach to marketing the event on social media and creating a buzz around the city of Miami. That’s what it’s all about. It’s about growth and the Miami Pro Summer League will only grow from here. Congratulations go out to #GFORCE as well. #GFORCE was the team that won the 2017 Miami Pro Summer League Championship. They will look to defend their title next summer at the 2018 Miami Pro League. I will definitely be in attendance and am a big time supporter from now on!
