Over the weekend, the boxing world received some shocking news as Manny Pacquiao announced who his next opponent would be when he returns to the ring. Instead of his opponent being Jeff Horn – an undefeated fighter out of New Zealand – it will be England’s Amir Khan.

The last that we heard about Khan was when he went up to middleweight to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in May of last year. He lost by knockout and the effects of Khan hitting the canvas had him visiting the hospital for concussion protocol. Manny Pacquiao defeated Tim Bradley and Jessie Vargas in 2016, and got back the WBO welterweight title that he lost in the fight against Floyd Mayweather in 2015.

The announcement came on Manny Pacquiao’s Twitter account on the night of February 25th, which sent shockwaves throughout the boxing world and sports in general. As shown, they had the date set at April 23rd which is a Sunday. The plans were to have the fight in Dubai at that date…now there has been an update that the new date has not been finalized yet and specifics on the contract will be worked out in the next few weeks. Regardless of when this fight actually happens, there will be some buzz about it when the date is known and we approach closer to the fight.
