Houston Astros win World Series

The 2017 World Series came to an end at Chavez Revine with the American League champion Houston Astros getting the Game 7 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 to capture their first ever World Series championship.

Houston ended up with two wins at Los Angeles to take the series. Tonight, their offense got to starting pitcher Yu Darvish in the first two innings to jump to a 5-0 lead and they never gave it up. Lance McCullers started the game for Houston on the mound and gave them 2 and 1/3 innings before the Astros utilized their bullpen to keep the Dodgers from scoring. Brad Peacock came in after McCullers and then Francisco Liriano and Chris Devenski came in for relief before the winning pitcher Charlie Morton stepped to the mound. Morton gave up one run to LA, but that was all that the Dodgers could come up with at home.

Darvish struggled right out of the gate in the first inning, giving up a lead-off double to George Springer and then he ended up scored the first run of the game due to a throwing error by Cody Bellinger. Alex Bregman, who ended up at second base because of that error, ended up stealing third base then scoring on a groundout by Jose Altuve to give the Astros a 2-0 lead after one inning. The next inning was even worse for Darvish, as he allowed three runs to the Astros which was highlighted by a two run homer to eventual World Series Most Valuable Player George Springer. It was his fifth homerun of the series which ties the record for most in a World Series.

While the Dodgers did bring out the best out of their bullpen after Darvish by using Clayton Kershaw, Kerry Wood, and Kenley Jansen, the offense for the team was not able to catch up with the Astros. They did not take advantage of the scoring opportunities they had, leaving 10 players on base over the course of the game and going 1-13 with runners in scoring position. They will be thinking about squandering those chances for quite some time while the Astros are celebrating a World Series title.
