Wales and Romania have been shocking Euro 2016 qualifiers since the tournament began, with both teams shooting up the rankings into the top 10. Wales jumps to their best ever ranking and are now 10th in the world after a surprising 1-0 win over then ranked 2nd Belgium.

Romania is now 8th in the world after not losing a single game since November 2013 (2-1 loss against Algeria.) Even though they only recently tied Northern Ireland 0-0 in the group stages of Euro 2016 qualifying that was enough to propel them into the top 10. They are now ranked higher than most European opponents who qualified for the 2014 World Cup.

Argentina is now the top team in the world after a solid Copa America performance, the Argentines lost to hosts Chile 4-1 in penalty kicks after a goalless full time and extra time. I still feel like World Cup winners Germany are the top team in the world, even though recent results may not confirm that. They are still sitting comfortably in the 2nd spot on the world rankings.

In North American news, Mexico move down to their lowest ever spot from 23rd all the way down to 40th. Surprisingly, the United States moves down to 34th, even though they have recorded recent victories over Netherlands and Germany who at the time were ranked first and sixth respectively, as well as a recent domination over Guatemala (ranked 93rd at the time of match.) Costa Rica is finally settling back down after a great World Cup. They fall from 14th, all the way to 42nd. Keep in mind these nations have the Gold Cup starting this month, so it will be interesting to see if these nations perform to their ranking. The US Men’s National team seem to be my clear favorites as of now.

Belgium is down one spot from 2nd to 3rd; Colombia is still in 4th; Netherlands and Brazil swap place, Netherlands moving up to 5th and Brazil moving down to 6th; Portugal remain 7th; Romania move up from 12th to 8th; England move to 9th, up from 15th; and finally, Wales sit in 10th place moving up 12 spots from 22nd.
