In one of the most surprising news stories within the sport of boxing, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will make a defense of the title against undefeated Cuban Luis Ortiz scheduled for November 4th at the Barclays Center.

For the past few months, people within the boxing circles were wondering why Wilder was not going forward with a mandatory title defense against the #1 contender Bermane Stiverne. The reason was that Wilder and his team was working on giving Stiverne a step-aside fee so that he could have a voluntary defense against Ortiz. This comes as a shock to many because Ortiz has been regarded as the most avoided fighter in the heavyweight division. He has been the #1 contender for the WBA heavyweight championship for a while, and has been asking for an opportunity for any of the heavyweight belts.

As part of the step aside deal for Stiverne, he would be part of the event on November 4th in a bout against Dominic Breazeale. If he gets through that, then the next bout for him would be against the winner of Wilder-Ortiz.
