Buffalo Bills’ Aaron Kromer Arrested for Assault and Battery

BY Matthew Long

Early Sunday morning Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator was arrested in the early morning hours Sunday. According to the police report he is being charged with assault and battery among the other allegation.

The police report indicates that Kromer caused an injury to the victim’s left eye.  According to rreprots Kromer and his son, Zachary, were involved in an altercation with the son of a neighbor, who was a minor. Said incident occurred in Inlet Beach, according to a Walton County Sheriff’s Office police report that was released on Monday. Kromer confronted three boys regarding them using his beach chairs which were left by a beach, per the police report. The report also alleges that Kramer took their fishing pole and threw it into the ocean. Following that he is alleged to push one of the boys to the ground and struck the boy in the face. The said that the Bills’ coach threatened to kill their family’s if the alerted the authorities.

Kromer was taken in to custody at 1:39 a.m. and was released on bond at 3:10 a.m., according to jail records. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network first reported the news, and the Bills stated that “We are aware of the report and in the process of gathering the facts.”

New Bills head coach Rex Ryan hired the 48-year -old assistant to his coaching staff in Buffalo after spending two seasons stint with the Chicago Bears as their offensive coordinator. If his name sounds familiar, it may be due to the comments Kromer made in regards to quarterback Jay Culter. The comment cause a stir in the football world when he admitted to his players that he was one of the sources.

Kromer got his first opportunity in the NFL 2001 as an assistant offensive line coach with the Oakland Raiders back in 2001 under Jon Gruden. He has had gigs as an assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Gruden, and with the New Orleans Saints, serving as the interim head coach for the first six games in 2012 season following the NFL BountyGate suspensions.

It will be interested to see how the Bills and the NFL treat the discipline of a coach, we know which direction the have when with players and owners. We have seen colleges dismissing student athletes for similar charges.
