Buccaneers “Begged” Tim Tebow to Play Another Position

Tim Tebow is known for now as a baseball player, holding his first workout in South Carolina. It wasn’t too long ago that he was still chasing his dream as an NFL quarterback, the stab at it was last season with Chip Kelly, then head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. Needless to say, Tebow didn’t see his dream realized.

Eagles did have him in camp as a QB, but according to a source they wanted to him in other positions. This has been the case ever since he was traded to the New York Jets, following fantasy like playoff run with the Denver Broncos. The last have him listed as fullback on the roster. The New England Patriots invited him to camp that proceeding season, but didn’t make the opening season roster.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ general manager Mark Dominik was no exception to the crowd that wanted Tim Tebow to play a position other than QB. New England used him as an H-back, which is a hybrid tight end role in camp, but failed to make the team. Dominik wanted to use the athletism and ability to make plays with the ball in his hands, and called harassed agent Jimmy Sexton and Tebow and begged him to come play the h-back in Tampa.

The pleading didn’t help and now, yes, he is a baseball player. I’m confident that Tebow would not have been the guy that would have saved Dominik’s job or been able to fuel that Bucs dealing with a QB controversy with Josh Freeman, a battle with MRSA, and a head coach that was losing the respect of his players.

A report from Sports Illustrated’s Peter King in 2013 stated that “after being cut by the New England Patriots [the week before, Tebow] has refused to change positions after a NFL team expressed interest in him.” King also reported, that “Tebow, has turned down offers to play in the CFL along with an offer from USA Rugby to change sports,” in an effort to keep his “NFL dream alive.”
